My Casa Bella

COME IN THE EVENING, OR COME IN THE MORNING;

COME WHEN YOU'RE LOOK'D FOR,

OR COME WITHOUT WARNING.

KISSES AND WELCOME YOU'LL FIND BEFORE YOU,

AND THE OFTENER YOU COME HERE

THE MORE I'LL ADORE YOU!

Welcome To My Casa Bella

My Casa Bella- means-my beautiful home- but it can mean so many other things. How you make your home a home. The sounds of children or pets playing. The aroma of scones in the oven or a lilac candle burning. The flowers blooming in your garden. The home grown vegetables ready to be picked. Grandma's quilt at the foot of the bed. A fire to curl up to with a good book. Or just a family spending time together with love, laughter and a good time.

Handmade Handbag..other goodies

So I've been busy, busy, busy,
working in my
craft room, trying to get some
things done.
My dearest friend, Valerie and her
Hubby celebrated
an
anniversary and I wanted to give
her something
special
so I made her this
and here's a close up
But I'll tell you something, I
will
NEVER
sew a satin ribbon on a purse
again!!
It slid here and there, it wanted
to pinch
and
it was getting pretty
FRUSTRATING!
But
it was for my dearest,
best friend
so I did it for her and she
loves it.
I'm glad!
Then I've been altering clipboards
as well
 I made one for my
mom
and then I made another
one,
just because
I really do enjoy making these
and I have
a few more to make.
I enjoy cutting
the paper
and trying to find
paper to compliment it
as well
then adding the
ribbon
to
make it even
more pretty!

Today was a good day!
I met a very sweet
young lady
all
the way
from
Ambert, France.
We spent the day together,
she's a friend
of a
friend
and we got to talking
about so
many things
She had lots
of questions about America
and how
Americans do things here.
We compared
cultures,
which
was fun
and it is amazing
how different
things are.
Let's just
say,
I'm ready to move
to the
countryside
of
France.
I
keep asking my
DH
to see if his company
needs him to
move
to France, or UK, or
how about
just Europe?
Well,
Evidently not!
STINK!!!
But she talked
about the
open markets there
and how they
cook
everything fresh
each day.
Very healthy,
no fast
foods,
she never even heard of
frozen foods
before,
I had to explain that to
her.
The look on her face
said it all,
how
GROSS!!!
LOL
But I did get to go
to a
Mennonite Market today
and
purchased some beautiful
berries,

and a large beautiful Melon
and
the largest
spring onions
And although
it rained most of the day,
we had a nice
time,
I love hearing her speak,
love the french
accent.
And I was able to purchase
fresh produce
right from our
local farmers,
hmmm,
what should I do
with all these
lovely
berries?
Maybe some warm
crepes
for breakfast?
Sounds
good!!
Au Revoir!!

  1. That purse turned out so pretty! But I know what you mean about the satin ribbon...tried that once, too. Only once.

Crepes sound fantastic. I'll be right over. :-)

I love the idea of buying fresh food from a farmer's market everyday, but I must admit that in the winter months or during bad weather, I am glad to have a freezer full of food or the ability call for pizza delivery. LOL

Have fun with all your goods from the market! Sounds like a very interesting experience speaking with your friend's friend from France. That must have been fun to compare lifestyles. =)

  5. As the VERY happy recipient of this purse, I have to say the pictures do not even do it justice! I think I'm going to hang it on the wall as ART, as its just too pretty to use! Thank you my dear friend, especially for fighting with that satin ribbon :) So fortunate to have such a sweet and talented friend like you! ~ Hugs, Valerie

  7. Beautiful work, as always, Arlene! :)

Coming from a Canadian who has always longed and yearned to live in Europe, and got her wish... for almost 3 years -- yes, there are wonderful things about European life. But trust me, the grass isn't always greener. Of course it depends on where you live in Europe, but in general, western Europe has extremely high taxes, over-crowding and the cost of living is horrendous. Then of course you have to deal with cultural and language differences which are much more difficult to bear than I ever thought possible. I have always viewed myself as a well-adjusted person with a lot of flexibility in certain areas, and yet I couldn't bear to stay there another year.

Of course, I certainly do miss the amazing architecture, food and history, AND yes... the amazing outdoor markets with all the fresh foods you can imagine. They were wonderful. But...that is basically all that I miss. It's one thing to visit and enjoy the culture, but it's an entirely other thing to actually *live* there.

  8. In other words, the idea of living abroad is intoxicating.... but the reality can be a hard pill to swallow.

    Unlike warm crepes... MMMMM! :)

  9. I have always wanted to live abroad for two years TOPS because I would miss what I'm used to and definitely family and friends. But how much fun that would be to live in Europe for a couple of years, to see a different culture, try different foods, see how others live. Would be fun for just a short while.
